What is LIC?

LIC - Life Insurance Corporation of India. LIC is a public sector company in India, deals with various life insurance products and investment plans. The motto of LIC is "Yogakshemam Vahamyaham" which means "your welfare is our responsibility". Life Insurance Corporation was established in 1956 when the Parliament of India passed the Life Insurance of India Act. This act merged and nationalized around 245 private insurance companies and provident societies to create state-owned Life Insurance Corporation. The largest insurance company in India is LIC. And in this, we shall discuss the topic on How to prepare for the LIC AAO Exam and to clear it!!!

 

Eligibility Criteria for LIC Mains Exam:

  • Nationality:  The candidate should be Citizen of Indian

  • Age Limit: The minimum age limit is 21 years and maximum of not more than 30 years.

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor/Master’s Degree from the recognized University/ Institution of India.

 

LIC AAO Selection Procedure:

Selection will be made on the basis of performance in the online test followed by a personal interview of shortlisted candidates and Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination.

Online Test: The LIC AAO On-line test is an objective type, multiple choice of duration two hours comprising of the following:

  • Reasoning Ability

  • Quantitative Aptitude

  • General Knowledge, Current Affairs

  • Computer Knowledge

  • English Language with Special prominence on Grammar, Vocabulary, and Comprehension.

 

Interview:

a) Candidates who were successful in the Online test will be called for an Interview. The candidate who doesn’t obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the Interview will be disqualified for further selection.

b) The number of candidates to be called for an interview will be about three times the number of vacancies available of successful candidates in the online examination and will be pure as per their ranking in their respective category.

 

Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination:

                                 Shortlisted candidates will have to undergo a Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination and if found medically fit, will be offered an appointment.
 

Preparation Tips to clear LIC AAO Exam:

To write AAO mains you need to clear AAO prelims. The prelims exam is divided into three parts- Reasoning Ability, English Language, and Quantitative Aptitude. Prelims will be conducted in Online.

After you got selected in prelims you will be allowed to attend the LIC AAO Mains Exam. The Mains exam consists of four parts-Reasoning, General knowledge and current affairs, Data analysis and interpretation, Insurance and financial market awareness, and the English language. Here are some preparation tips for mains!!

 

Tips for Reasoning:                  

  1. By practicing mock tests frequently we can try to score good marks and so you can at least get cutoffs.

  2. After practicing work on your weak areas.

  3. Go for easy questions first so that you can save time. Time management is important.

  4. First try to attempt Inequalities, Coding, and Decoding, Alphanumeric symbols which is comparatively easy than others.

  5. After that attempt Syllogisms, Blood relation, Input-output and finally attempt Puzzles, Seating arrangement, Logical Reasoning.

  6. Don’t spend more than 45 minutes in the reasoning section. Leave the questions which you can’t attend.

Tips for preparing Current Affairs:

For current affairs, it is highly recommended to read the newspapers regularly. This can let you know what’s happening in and around you. Get updated yourself by referring to whatever sources you can. Try to read two different newspapers. Make note of important news.

 

Data Analysis and Interpretation:

  • Try to learn calculations mentally. It is good to know square and cube roots from numbers 1-20.

  • In data analysis and interpretation, You can easily guess the answer by understanding the question properly. So try to understand the question crystal clear.

  • Practice more type of questions which you are not sure about because you must be able to attend all kind of data analysis.

 

Tips for Insurance and Financial Market Awareness:

  • The topics on Insurance and Financial Market Awareness are not to be studied in depth. Only the basics need to be covered with an eye on the important current affairs in the last 6 months. This section is easy although somewhat immense. 

  • On the other hand, insurance is to be studied in depth especially about the basic terms and definitions used in it along with regulatory aspects. Another important topic is Insurance related schemes especially the ones introduced in the last 4 years. 

  • Insurance schemes offered by LIC are also to be done in detail. Various types of insurance products and how they are different from each other should be memorized thoroughly. Other key points include insurance committees, insurance companies, important government policies like FDI in insurance, etc.

 

Tips for the English Language:

  • Read newspaper daily

  • Learn about grammar rules

  • Improve Vocabulary

  • Listen to podcasts

  • Listen to some songs and try to sing along with it.

  • Learn more words and their meanings

Role of LIC AAO:

  • LIC AAOs are responsible to help the Administrative Officer or any head of the department in managing/supervising the general functioning of the department.

  • An AAO or assistant administrative officer is responsible for inspecting and analyzing the currently running policies.

  • Responsible for planning new schemes and/or policies.

  • Processing policy applications.

  • Creating and maintaining databases

  • Should be Interacting with prospective customers, sales personnel, and vendors, etc.

  • Negotiating with Agents/Development Officers

  • Responsible for interacting with clients and resolving their queries

 

Last-Minute Preparations :

  • Go through the syllabus completely and be sure of not missing/leaving even a single topic

  • Have a look at the complete exam pattern and plan your time accordingly

  • Do not forget about the negative marking

  • Practice the mock tests before appearing in the exam

Payscale for LIC AAO:

  1. The initial Basic Pay of LIC AAO is around Rs 32,795 per month.

  2. There will be an annual increment of Rs 1,610 for the next 14 years.

  3. Basic Pay after 14 years will be Rs 55,335.

  4. Then there will be an annual increment of Rs 1,745 for the next 4 years.

  5. Basic Pay after the next 4 years will be Rs 62,315.

 

The LIC AAO Exam is easy to clear compared to other competitive Exams. As this Exam contains only aptitude kind of questions. But you need to practice hard because these exams are based on time and without practice, you can’t able to complete the exam within the time. You should know all the shortcut methods, especially for the Quantitative part. Smart work needs to be done during the exam.
