About National Institute of Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram
The National Institute of Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). It was initially founded in 1975 as a CSIR complex. It was designated as Regional Research Laboratory in the year 1978 and later renamed as NIIST in the year 2007. The mandate of the institute is to conduct research and development activities of the highest quality in relation to fundamental importance to the country and effective use of the resources of the region. Currently NIIST is engaged in R&D programs related to Agro Processing, Chemistry, Materials and Minerals, Biotechnology, Process Engineering and Environmental Technology.
